Alpine Mountain Region Porche

Around the Zone

Around the Zone in June

Intermountain Region hosted their Club Race and DE on the first weekend in June. The event was held at Burt Brothers Motorpark which is outside Salt Lake City. I am told they had record numbers for the DE, and the event was well run and attended. The Assistant Steward was unable to make it to the race so, Vicki Earnshaw the Club Race Steward in attendance asked if I would help her. I really enjoyed seeing that side of the Club Race world. Watching the race from the tower and hearing all the radio calls made the weekend that much more enjoyable. I have been doing registration Rocky Mountain Region’s Club Race for many years, and I found learning something new was enjoyable. I want to thank Intermountain Region members for making me feel so very welcome. I am looking forward to returning net year.

Rocky Mountain Region held another autocross during a very hot, first weekend of summer Saturday. Despite the heat RMR had 64 drivers in attendance and were able to get in 5 morning runs and 3 afternoon runs. The organizers were ready with plenty of cold water and even purchased some cooling neck wraps for everybody. So even though it was hot, everybody made it through without any problems. I had my summer street tires on for this one. I was practicing for the autocross at Parade and I will be using those tires. They were very noisy and not as grippy as I am used to, but I’m glad I used them instead of my track tires.

On the last Saturday of the month Alpine Mountain Region celebrated their 50th Anniversary. The event was held at The Carter Payne which is an old church renovated into a fun gathering place. The menu consisted of German themed heavy appetizers. There were local beers to drink as well as  Porsche car color themed mixed drink offerings (think speed yellow, guards red, signal orange and etc.). My friends at AMR are always so friendly you could say they are my third family with RMR being my second. It is always nice to see Fred Veitch, one of the founding members of AMR, out there having fun. He brought his 356, which he rebuilt, to show off and took home the people’s choice award. Congratulations to Alpine Mountain Region on your 50th Anniversary, and I wish you the best for another 50 years! Next up – Porsche Parade in Oklahoma City! See you there.
