Colorado Scenic Byway Tour- Frontier Pathways to Highway of the Legends
Please join us on May 19th for the Highway of Legends tour and marvel at the breathtaking views of the Sangre de Cristo’s, Wet Mountains, and Spanish Peaks. We will depart at 8:15 AM from Porsche of Colorado Springs at 917 Motor City Drive in Colorado Springs. Plan to arrive at the dealership by 7:30 AM for breakfast snacks, registration and a mandatory driver’s meeting.
Our route travels south from Colorado Springs through the Wet Mountain Valley and then from La Veta on the Highway of Legends through the mountains to Trinidad, a town with Victorian architecture that preserves a civilized slice of southern Colorado’s rough-and-tumble past. Along the Highway of Legends, you can view unusual volcanic formations radiating outward from the Spanish Peaks and remnants of previous mining. The Highway of Legends rises to Cuchara Pass on the shoulder of the Spanish Peaks. The Tarahumare Indians held these summits as sacred and believed that all life on earth originated from the area.
Lunch location is TBD with individual checks.
Note: We are currently making arrangements for a meeting place at La Veta for those members who cannot join us at Porsche Colorado Springs to start the tour. More details to follow on where and when we can meet up.
Registration is now open on MotorsportsReg.com
For those AMR members out west who wish to autocross and cannot make it to the front range to attend an AMR or RMR autocross, you are invited to attend Roadrunners Region’s autocross at Farmington, NM. More detail to follow as they become available at https://www.rrrpca.com/event/die-serie-ax-in-farmington/.
Just a reminder that all members are welcome to join us at the AMR Board Meetings. We would like to hear your ideas and suggestions on making our club better. Please RSVP with one of our board members before the meeting.
Please join us on June 1st for the “Red Rocks Park” tour and take in the amazing views from the park known for its very large red sandstone outcrops. Many of these rock formations within the park have names, from the mushroom-shaped “Seat of Pluto” to the inclined “Cave of the Seven Ladders”. The most visited rocks, around the park’s amphitheater, are Creation Rock to the north, Ship Rock to the south, and Stage Rock to the east.
We will depart at 9:00 AM from Porsche of Colorado Springs at 917 Motor City Drive in Colorado Springs. Plan to arrive at the dealership by 8:15 AM for breakfast snacks, registration and a mandatory driver’s meeting.
Our route travels northwest from Colorado Springs along the west side of the Rampart Range to Deckers, then to Conifer and Evergreen before ending our tour winding along Bear Creek Road and reaching the park. Within the park boundaries is the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, a world-famous venue used since 1941, which hosts many concerts and other events.
Lunch will be at the Red Rocks Grill with individual checks. The maximum limit for lunch is 100 people, so make sure you let us know if you choose not to join us for lunch!
Registration is now closed.
Don’t forget to sign up for our 2nd Porsches and Pancakes breakfast at Uncle Sam’s Pancake House in Manitou Springs on Sunday, June 9th at 9AM. We’ll also be discussing Treffen Colorado Springs, AMR activities, and volunteer opportunities for next year (see amrporsche.com/tcs2020 for list). Please RSVP to Alex at email@example.com.
The June membership social will be held on Wednesday, June 12th at Edelweiss German Restaurant in the “Rathskeller”. Drinks will start at 6:00 PM and dinner will be served from a limited menu at 6:30 PM. RSVP is required as space is limited to 65 people.
This month, we will be collecting donations for TESSA, which is a local organization that provides immediate safety at a confidential safe house for women, children, and other victims escaping abuse; empowers survivors through programs and support such as advocacy and counseling; and creates a safer future through education and outreach to schools, businesses, and other organizations.
