Happy New Year from your new AMR President
Hello and Happy New Year AMR!
I am honored to be your new AMR board President, and excited about the many events being offered in 2023.
In my role as President, I am here to support my fellow board members, our committee chairs, and the volunteers that deliver the outstanding social events, tours, HPDE and autocross we enjoy.
More importantly, I am here to serve you, the members, and the interests of AMR.
We will kick off the new year with our February 15 social at Old Spaghetti Factory (registration will go live this week). The social calendar delivers a varied slate of events with new venues and expanded attendance capacity.
Next up is DE101 at Porsche Colorado Springs on March 11, followed by 5 HPDE events at Pueblo, La Junta and PPIR.
Our first of many tours is the Spring Off Road Tour on April 22.
You can find all of our planned events on the AMR website (https://amrporsche.com/calendar/).
We are in need of volunteers if you are looking for other ways to participate in the club.
Our Advertising/Sponsorship Chair and Equipment Chair positions are vacant. We are also seeking additional members of the HPDE Control team. Reach out if you would like to volunteer for any of these positions.
I look forward to seeing you all throughout the year. I wish you enjoyment driving the best vehicles made and the fellowship that AMR provides.
If I can be of any assistance with any club related matters, don’t hesitate to contact me.

AMR Driving Instructor Candidate Info
As we approach another High-Performance Drivers Education (HPDE) season in AMR, we are looking for candidates who may be interested in becoming AMR HPDE Instructors. If you have participated in and enjoyed the experience of our HPDE program and think you might have what it takes to further contribute to it, we would like to encourage you to apply to become a PCA instructor. We are seeking folks who have an ability and desire to help instruct students in our program. The AMR CDI team will review the applications, looking for candidates we believe possess the temperament, communication skills and style, the appropriate desire for safety, a ‘better than basic’ knowledge of high-performance driving and a strong desire to help others succeed.
Once the applications have been received, we will review the above criteria and select a pool of candidates who will be invited to attend our annual Instructor Training Clinic, which includes an on-track evaluation (those may be conducted at an early HPDE, depending on the number of candidates). Candidates who successfully complete that evaluation will then be added to the list of PCA National Instructors prior to the start of next season. Please submit your application on or before March 1st. Being a PCA Instructor is one of the best jobs in PCA, so we encourage all interested candidates to apply!
Here is the link to the application form: AMR Driving Instructor Application Form
If you are interested, please contact Robert Yen (robertyen@att.net).
Robert will be happy to talk with you about what it takes, and get you started in the process.
We have a great schedule of events lined up for this year. We look forward to seeing you at the track soon!
- March 11 HPDE 101 @ Porsche Colorado Springs (registration now open!)
- April 15-16 La Junta Raceway
- May 6-7 PPIR
- June 3-4 Pueblo Motorsports Park
- September 23-24 La Junta Raceway
- October 14-15 Pueblo Motorsports Park
Definition of a Champion: Robert Prilika
There are many ways to identify a champion. Numerous victories are obvious ones, but the sign of true character is the racer who gives back to the community where he enjoyed his success.
That champion is Robert Prilika. “I may have apprehension before a race. but once I climb into the car, I am very calm” Page 32 – Susan Eastman
In Loving Memory – Mary Jane Hopkinson
Sad to report that Mary Jane Hopkinson, a member for decades, passed away peacefully in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 31; she was 74. Moving to Colorado in the mid-1970s, she met her life partner Dr. Richard “Doc” Porter, an Alamosa anesthesiologist who raced an early 911. Mary Jane joined right in, and her smile regularly brightened PCA driving events, Parades, and SCCA races. After Richard passed away in 2010, she moved to Tucson and became interested in Arizona history, desert archeology, and RV travel. We’ll miss her!
NEXT BOARD MEETING: The September 2023 Board meeting will be held September 26 at Texas T-bone Steak House, 5245 N Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. Dinner at 5:30, Meeting at 6:00. (updated 30 August).

SNELL HELMET UPDATES: Effective January 1, 2022, all DE drivers must have helmets with Snell certification of either SA2015 or SA2020. (posted 09 Mar)
RECARO “Profi SPG XL” RACING SEATS UPDATE: The Driver Education Committee has been made aware of an immediate recall of Recaro “Profi SPG XL” racing seats which were produced from 2017 to 2022 due to failure issues. We ask that you forward this message to all drivers in your DE programs and post to your social media platforms. To enroll on Recaro’s list for replacement seats, please go to the following link. The letter which Recaro sent to the purchasers of these units is here. We are not requiring the Tech Inspection teams to monitor for these seats as it is up to the individual drivers to make a decision how to proceed with Recaro’s recall notification. We do, however, want to issue a warning based on Recaro’s recall and make our DE drivers aware of the situation. (posted 11 Jun)
PCA COVID-19 UPDATE: As states and provinces have eased their restrictions, PCA’s first priority remains the health and safety of our members, volunteers, sponsors and employees. Please continue to follow all local guidelines and restrictions. The intent of the Communicable Disease Waiver (CDW) was to allow us to get back to events as quickly as practical in a responsible manner.
PCA is pleased to announce, effective Thursday, July 1, 2021, PCA no longer requires the use of the CDW. Of course, all other appropriate waivers are still needed (updated 01 Aug)
